History / Past productions

History:

The Malibu Stage Company was created by Charles Marowitz and Jacqueline Bridgeman in 1990. It's first presentation at the Smothers Theatre at Pepperdine University was Jerome Kilty's Dear Liar with Nan Martin and Dan O'Herlihy. Charles Marowitz is an internationally respected director, writer and critic.

The Malibu Stage Company has presented the plays of George Bernard Shaw, Henrik Ibsen, Oscar Wilde, David Mamet, David Hirson and A.R. Gurney, starring talented actors such as Ed Asner, Rene Auberjonois, Bonny Bedelia, Harry Hamlin, Nan Martin, Leo Penn, Kathleen Quinlan, Matt Salinger, Trish van Devere, Martin Sheen, David Warner, and Jane Windsor.

The Malibu Stage Company moved into it's new facility at the start of the 2002 season. Thanks to the immense generosity of James Cowan, the present owner of the building, the property has been leased to the Malibu Stage Company, a non-profit, 501-C3 corporation.

Christopher Hart was named Artistic Director at the start of the 2003 season.

Oren Safdie was named Interim Artistic Director in 2006.
